The Midwinter Oak Pruning

A study in restraint: shaping canopy strength while inviting low winter light back into the grove.

Sketchbook study of oak forms and branch structure

Pruning in midwinter is less about subtraction and more about future balance. We remove what crosses, what crowds, and what weakens the line of growth that spring will quickly amplify.

Under a pale sky, each cut is deliberate. Air and light now pass through the grove in a way that honors both health and silhouette.

By afternoon, the oaks stand cleaner and quieter, prepared for a season of stronger extension and steadier fruiting wood.
